(More customer reviews)I have had one of these for 2+ years and use it a lot. Without question this is the best grill I have ever owned. Super-heavy real cast iron grate, loads of cooking space, easy enough to dump the ashes etc., lid sels well etc.
I do not own a cover for it and have kept it outdoors all this time. Still looks decent except the stained wood shelves have lost their finish. Anyone with a tiny bit of ambition could re-stain them. But the painted finish on the grill itself is quite durable.
Space like this gives me a great deal of control. I have room to build a big fire in the middle, keep a cast-iron griddle to one side and use the other edge for "holding" stuff off the direct heat etc. A real winner.
Can be bought cheaper and assembled at Lowes stores.

(More customer reviews)Charcoal grilling arguably produces better flavors, but propane has inarguable convenience. Some of the benefits of propane include push-button ignition, no lighter fluid, no coaxing the charcoal to burn evenly and no messy charcoal to clean up. If you've made the decision to go propane, the Weber Silver A is a good selection. It's a well-made and of sturdy construction. It requires some assembly, but no tools that aren't provided with grill. The manufacturer claims the grill can be assembled in less than 40 minutes and that's approximately how long it took me to assemble it. It is necessary to lift the heavy body of the grill and set it down upon the stand. The directions show two people performing this task. I was assembling the grill by myself and was able to do this by myself, but I would imagine it is wiser and safer to do it with two people. The Silver A is significantly smaller than many of the other grills on the market. I have limited space in my backyard, so the more compact design was an added plus. If considering the Silver A, you should probably look at the Silver B as well. Although a little more expensive, the Silver B offers 36,000 BTU's to the Silver A's more modest 26,000 BTU's. Although I'm happy with the performance of the Silver A, the Silver B is probably worth the investment if the grill is going to get heavy usage. There is a Silver C model as well, but this is a larger model that does not share the more compact design of its smaller siblings. I recommend the Silver A to anyone looking for a compact, but quality propane grill, but would urge the prospective purchaser to look at the more powerful yet compact Silver B model as well.

Weber Q 120 Gas Grill Review

The Weber Q has several nice features: The trays fold up into the grill and have built-in utensil storage. The grate is designed so that grease will drip around, but never on, the burner underneath.
I've hosted two cookouts and I've received several compliments on my Weber Q. The food has always been tasty and you definitely get some good grill marks.
Clean-up is pretty straightforward. Out in the field, I usually give the cooking grate a good scrubbing with a brass brush to get the chunks off. Then after it has cooled, I remove the grate and wipe the inside surface with paper towels. All the crud gets brushed into the drip pan.
Some tips:
- If you use a regular 20 lb. liquid propane (LP) cylinder at home for other grills, then I recommend purchasing the tank adapter hose for the Weber Q. Propane tanks are much cheaper than propane bottles.
- This grill does not use the regular green propane bottles that you commonly associate with portable grills. Instead, it uses the slender blue propane bottles commonly used with torches.
- Follow the cleaning instructions: Don't use harsh cleaners such as oven cleaners. Don't use harsh scouring pads. And don't go overboard with the scraper. (I chipped a little of the coating off an edge of the grate while scraping.) For a thorough cleaning at home, use dishwashing detergent and a brush with plastic bristles and you'll be fine.

The quality of construction is very good and this could be a great portable grill except for a design flaw not shown in the Masterbuilt pic but viewable at the Kingsford site. The lower vent is located above the coals and circulates air over the fire, not through it.
If you toss the lid and keep a squirt gun on hand, you're in business. Use of the lid tends to snuff out the briquettes.

Lodge Logic L410 Pre-Seasoned Sportsman's Charcoal Grill Review

(More customer reviews)I ordered this heavy (33 pounds) little jewel from Amazon a week ago, got it much earlier than expected and tried it out the day I got it. I now have 4 grills: An "oil barrel" type that is perfect for when the family tribe shows up, 2 Weber kettle types in different sizes for weekend entertaining and now the Lodge.
I've had several cast aluminum discount store hibachi's over the years and after the wooden handles fall off, the legs become impossible to tighten and then the "adjustable" supports for the grill crack. I don't see that happening with this hibachi.
Let the grill pre-heat, spray it with PAM and then enjoy the meal. The heat is even, cooking times may be a bit faster than you think, but the dish will be excellent.
HOWEVER! If one is cooking on a wooden deck, as I do, invest in some bricks or concrete pavers to go under the feet. Like all cast iron, this sucker retains heat and you don't want to burn your house down while entertaining guests.
Look for the book "The Honerable Hibachi" by Kathryn Popper. An excellent guide/recipe book.
I wonder if this would be safe to use in a large fireplace in winter months. Any ideas?
I'm thinking about getting another Lodge and then finding a home for the smaller Weber.
Get one and then enjoy your hibachi.
Update Feb 26, 2006:
I've now had the Lodge Hibachi for 4 months and typically use it several times a week. Clean-up is even easier than it was when new. Remember to put a little olive oil or PAM on the grids first and the seasoning improves. In cold, rainy weather, the hibachi fits and cooks nicely in my fireplace (thanks, Ukiechris!), but I crack a window when I do that.
Although quite heavy, it's a great picnic grill and will easily cook chicken, steaks or burgers for 4 people. My Webers must think I don't love them anymore. I do, but the Lodge is perfect for 1-4 people and chicken cooked on the hibachi has a flavor my kettle or barrel grills just can't match.
Besides cooking for that tribal gathering, I'll let you know if I find something the Lodge can't do.

(More customer reviews)This is a lovely cutting board, very functional, knife friendly, and if treated well, I believe it will offer years of service for a very reasonable price. I notice some reviewers of other bamboo boards have complained about warped boards, but I think that is an easily avoided problem. No prolonged soaking, good air drying before storing, and a reasonable schedule of oiling. The best oil is food grade mineral oil, which will not go rancid, and you don't need to buy a specialty board oil. Just grab a cheap bottle of mineral oil in the laxative aisle of the local pharmacy.
There's a French adage about boards and their love and care: Oil them once a day for a week, once a week for a month, and once a month for a year. Don't know if it is necessary to be that diligent, but definitely take the few minutes it takes to oil a good board regularly, and even an inexpensive board like this will serve you well. By the way, I found this board at TJX for 10 bucks, and decided to review it here because I liked it enough to pay the $28 price here if I wanted another one.

Char-Broil 4584609 Natural Gas Conversion Kit Review

(More customer reviews)I bought my Char Broil Quantum Grill planning on converting it to natural gas. I read that you could do the conversion yourself easily. I found directions on the internet on how to drill out the gas jets. I'm a do-it-yourself person but this didn't sound like a great idea. So I bought this conversion kit. It was easy to install and it works fine that gets it 3 stars. Why only 3 stars?
Here's what's in the kit: a gas hose with quick connect, a wrench, decorative valve bezels and directions. It turns out that the Char Broil Quantum "dual fuel" grills are built for natural gas and they add little fittings to convert them to propane. You lift out the burners, use the wrench to remove the little brass fittings, put the burners back on and hook up the gas hose. Done. I could have visited my local hardware store and done it myself safely for about $10.
Don't get me wrong, I love the grill and the kit works fine but - save your money.

(More customer reviews)At the price I paid, about $29 including shipping, this was a good deal. After I bought it, Sam's had it for $26. However with the sales tax, it was just about a $1 less than what I paid. The person that filled the tank for me said it was a good tank. I bought it to be able to use the 20 lb. tank instead of the small canister propane tank on my Coleman grill, since the small ones did not last very long. The only negative thing I can say was that there where some small dents in the tank but I am assuming this occurred during shipping. I guess I could return it, but I didn't feel it was worth the hassle. Also, the tank came "pre-purged" so that it was ready to fill. The grill works even better now with the larger tank. If you use your grill a lot, this is the way to go. You can use it to refill, or use it to exchange for a full tank at the stores that have tank exchanges. To use the 20 lb. tank you will need the hose adapter that sells on Amazon for about $25 (Coleman), or most Lowes or Home Depo. Very easy to do.
