1) It has a non-stick surface making clean-up relatively easy. Just make sure, like with any non-stick cookware, that you use wood or plastic/rubber utensils and cleaning gear.
2) The device has its own canister for any liquids you wish to use. It has an extension as part of the canister that's perforated to let the steam saturate a larger area of the bird's inside cavity. I've not tried it yet, but am going to soak hickory chips in the canister ahead of cooking and then use a smaller amount of liquid. I'm hoping it will smoke the bird from the inside as well.
3) the base is perforated to drain away fats but lets enough remain to help baste any vegetables or other foods being cooked.
4) you want to bake indirectly with this, so plan on banking your coals to the sides of the grill. We used ours on a traditional Weber kettle grill that has baskets for the coals for indirect cooking.
5) cooking times are going to be dependent upon the fire and the bird's size, so use a meat thermometer and place it in a deep section of meat where it will read a core temp rather than surface.
6) there was plenty of room between the bird and the cover on our Weber kettle. Another style of charcoal grill might be different.
7) have a platter ready for when the cooking is done. Since the bottom of the roaster is perforated, it will drip grease anywhere you go if you just try to carry it. So, set the cooker, bird and all, on a platter to move it.
This is a nice improvement over the "beer can" method. It's sturdy and supports the bird nicely. The handles, when used with hot pads or mittens are, well, handy. It's a nice accessory for less than a $20 bill.

(More customer reviews)Before I bought this for moving charcoal the three feet from the container to the grill, I tried using tongs. The little bits always slipped out, particularly when using lump charcoal instead of briquettes. Took forever, too. Then I tried using a plastic mixing bowl. I couldn't get the charcoal to scoop well because the lip was too thick and the bowl wasn't the right shape. Plus, the plastic is now scratched and seems to be permanently black at the top from the charcoal. Clearly not the best idea I've had lately.
This scoop solved all that. It is large, and seems like it would stop a bullet. It has a nice polish that looks nice, while not collecting charcoal dust. All aluminum means it won't rust when left outside (as mine is).
Surprisingly good quality -- it looks like it cost a hundred dollars at a specialty store. Would make a good gift, especially if you notice that the griller in your life has been scratching up the mixing bowls.

(More customer reviews)I use these to start fires in our fireplace this winter. They work very well. They burn hot and last fairly long. In almost all cases, I can start a log fire without any kindling. This assume that the wood is dry.
I find that you typically need 2, sometimes 3, packets to start a large stack of wood in a firelpace For a small fire, like a campfire, once should suffice.
I will be buying these again.

(More customer reviews)Bought this grill from a retailer. You would expect for the money a top notch product with support to match. My $500 Weber grilled performed better. The lynx grill constantly broke down in the first year. First the heavy stainless grill warped and broke - yes the welds snapped apart. Second, the ignitors for each of the burners broke down. Some of the ignitors wore out twice in one year. I use the grill about twice a week, but they shouldn't break down. Even when they worked, the grill was difficult to lite. Finally, over the winter, the entire electrical system broke down. Lynx initially was great and sent a repair person to replace, but after a while, stopped returning phone calls notwithstanding the lifetime warranty with original owner (I only owned for one year). I would not recommend this purchase

(More customer reviews)There is no easier, more hassle-free way to start a charcoal fire than by using one of these. As long as you have access to an electric outlet somewhere in the vicinity of your grill, you'd be foolish to use any other method.
You place the heating element on the grate, with the plastic handle resting on the barbecue's edge. Cover the element with your briquettes, plug it in, wait 12 minutes, and then remove it. By that time, any charcoals that were in contact with the red-hot element will have started. Mound up the coals, wait a few more minutes, and you're good to go. No smelly, dangerous lighter fluids, no chimneys, no newspapers. What could be more simple?
The electric cord is quite short, so if your outlet isn't close by you'll have to use an extension cord. Just make sure it is a heavy duty one - like the kind used for power tools.
It's quite durable if used correctly. I bought the one I have now 6 or 7 years ago and I use it at least 30 or so times a year. The heating element is beginning to crack now, so it will fail soon, but 200+ uses for this inexpensive item is pretty respectable, I think.
I can't understand why everyone doesn't use one of these. If you like to barbecue in your backyard or on your patio or deck, this is indispensable equipment.

I ended up biting the bullet, and buying the GREAT Weber gas grill with THICK iron grates at HD!
Wish I had done this years ago!- It cooks sooo even, and No flareups (sheilded burners/ less smoke than the Meco too! Weber costs more, but supposedly lasts for years longer than el-cheapos!

I'm "REALLY!" in to a healthier lifestyle, and subscribe to "several" respected health e-zines.
1. 15+ years ago I read tests that charcoal BBQ's, really put "LOTS" of very bad carciniogens into your meat!
2. So I went to a gas BBQ. Not as good tasting as charcoal, but "SUPPOSEDLY" healthier?
NOT!- Now I read tests that gas BBQ's are little healthier than charcoal. The "deadly" carciniogens are in the drippings smoke- coming from the hot lava rocks below!
3. So I now go to the MECO electric grill.
Pros-
a. Healthier- as virtually no smoke (grill/elements are steeply slanted, and drippings collect in a handy pan under the grill).
b. No having to mess with expensive propane gas...
c. Well made, and sturdy.
d. Low fire danger- Acceptable for most apartment complexes. ASK!
e. Sears steaks well (preheat on high for 15+ min, and close lid FAST! Requires a "Heavy Duty" electric outlet!). Cooks just as fast (or faster) than gas. BUT, "NO!" BBQ taste! You will probably need a marinade...
Good "web search" recipe I found for steaks...-
I pre-mix & rub in, a blend of-
salt ("AlsoSalt"- is very healthy and GOOD tasting!), black pepper, chili powder (all in equal parts...), and a little cayenne pepper. You can also add any other seasonings you like, to taste...
PAM makes a "High Temp" cooking spray, for the grill.

(More customer reviews)My husband and I bought a big stainless steel grill (the kind with the side shelf and side burner, about 65" total I think). We looked at covers for it around town, and found the cheapest to be about $25-$30. This price pretty much got you a flimsy tarp cut in the shape of a grill. Not to say that these covers aren't effective, but we live in the south where rain, wind, and sometimes snow are a factor. For anything heavy duty, we found that covers were costing around $60 and up. I came on Amazon and found this cover for under $30 and gave it a shot.
This cover is made of heavy material and feels like it will hold up over time. I don't see it ripping from any normal use. It fits our grill perfectly, covering the whole thing. I like that I can put this on while the grill is still hot, because I am not one to remember to go back outside later to slap a cover on.
Overall I would highly recommend this cover. And you definitely can't beat this price for this good quality.

We grill year round and it is often dark when he is trudging outside with a plate full of lamb chops. He has either used the light spilling out from the kitchen or used a head lamp in the past. This grill light has a pretty strong magnet on it and can just attach to the grill or onto the spatula or whatever your using to flip. He loves it and often just holds onto it rather than attaching it to anything when checking the meat. I like it, because it is easy to grab from the grill drawer to use to light the path when I am taking the recycling out.

I bought this grill for this summers motorcycle camping adventures. I can't think of a better use for this grill. Narrower main body section gives many options for tying down, and on my bike (a shadow 750) the bottom "foot hole" was able to go over and around my sissy bar and sit on my rack. Pretty sweet. 2 up camping now comes with a BBQ!
The Bad (at least for motorcycle camping):
It is a bit flimsy (but quite stable when open for grilling). With care, I am expecting to get about 50 or so BBQs out of it. After it falls apart I am planning to go to a metal shop in town and have it re-fabricated in some heaver gauge steel. I would be willing to have a little heaver (and smaller) grill for motorcycle camping if it was durable. The grilling surface is large. Expect to need about 3 pounds of charcoal to get it going well, 6 pounds (an entire small bag) of charcoal for a full grill to feed 4+ people. This makes it a requirement to setup camp, and then ride out to get groceries and charcoal. Messy.
I've BBQ'd for years and have to say the "action" on this grill is quite good. If you really have a need for an extremely portable grill, I would definitely recommend it. If you are just looking for a smaller grill for car camping or porch cookouts I would recommend the more traditional Coleman and Weber portable grills with a lid and better durability.

My porch light is not located close enough to my pit and I often ended up trying to mop my meats with sauces or season them in the dark or try and hold a flash light. Both of these options were not working out. I looked all over for something small and bright. There are allot of clamp on models and lights of much larger size. I don't want to hassle with a desk lamp sized light. It's more to get in the way. This unit is inexpensive, durable and very bright. It can be carried in your pocket and pulled out and attached as needed. It's held in place by a strong magnet and I think it works out great. See my full review with pictures on my site. So I bought it and it does get very very hot, very very fast. I love it. I can cook 2 very thick steaks in about 15 minutes (keep the lid closed). Be sure to wrap the parts in foil before you cook because its a pain to keep clean.
