(More customer reviews)I usually draw, so when I use this it's to speed the blending process with colored pencils. I've not worked with turpentine, but just a dab of this on a paper towel smooths out my Prismacolors in a few seconds. I *love* it. If you use more than a dab or go over a section more than once you'll thin the pigment and get a watercolor thing going on. I've also used it on a paper I covered with charcoal, just to see what it would do. It smooths the charcoal out to a really gorgeous matte finish. It has a very faint smell, but nothing even approaching the toxic turpentine, and the consistency of thin buyounant oil. (Makes it ridiculously easy to spill.) I have to admit that I've never used it with paint, and the shop girl I bought it from said she that she's used to turpentine and this stuff was difficult for her to work with, so you'll probably want to get a second opinion if you're a painter. Which...you probably are. ^_^
